First Communion

2012 First Communion Festival & First Communion Weekend

Sacraments are the special ceremonies or acts given to us by Jesus to deliver God's grace, love, and forgiveness. They use physical substances with the Word of God. There are two sacraments in the Lutheran church: Baptism, which uses water, and
Holy Communion, which uses bread and wine.

Fifth grade students, with their parents, are given Holy Communion instruction at one of two Communion Festivals usually held a few weeks before receiving communion for the first time.

The Festival consists of three 30-minute stations:
    Symbolic Seder Meal
Holy Communion Instruction given by a pastor
Stole-making (Stoles are worn by students as they take their First Communion.)

Students receive their First Communion with their families on the weekend after Easter

First Communion Weekend
Sat/Sun, April 6/7, 2013

Students must be baptized before receiving their First Communion. If your child has not been baptized, please contact the church office at 763.420.5015 to schedule a baptism.

An information letter is mailed to the families of all Fifth Graders in our computer system prior to the Festivals. It requires an RSVP to register for a specific Festival. Sixth Graders and Junior High students are welcome to attend a Festival with a parent if they have not yet received instruction.

If you have questions regarding First Communion or the Communion Festival, please contact Lynn Leisen, Director of Faith in the Home at
lynnl@lordoflife.org or by phone at 763.420.5015 x107.
