Acts 29 team on the Grand Staircase |
Today was our last day in Port Sulphur. After breakfast, four of our guys went to the house to finish up some last minute preparations for the dedication. The rest of the group stayed at the church. They worked hard cleaning up the fellowship hall and also waited for the rain to stop. It has rained on us everyday, but one! And when it rains here, it pours. This is a good thing because this area has not had rain for months.
The highlight of the day was the house dedication for Mr. Chauvin Buras, which happened at 11:00 a.m. He has lived in a trailer since 1969, needless to say he is very excited to have a house. The sky was sunny and the mood was festive. The people there included, Mr. Buras' relatives, representatives from the various agencies that were involved in the project and the volunteers. We were honored to be a part this dedication. All of the speakers glorified and praised God. We presented Mr. Buras with a prayer shawl and gave four others to his relatives. All of the people were impressed by the signs that were made by our guys. After the dedication, we drove down to the Venice marina. This is as close as we could get by car to where the Mississippi River enters the Gulf of Mexico. We had a delicious lunch. Many of us tried their specialty-seafood baked potato. It was fun to watch the fishermen come in with their catches. Once we arrived back at camp, we had some down time-many of us napped. For our supper, we went back to the pizza place and had the best hamburgers in town. We think it may be the only hamburger place in town! Tonight we all enjoyed the beautiful kaleidoscope that was given to our group. Thanks to the person who made it for us. Tomorrow most of us will be heading for home. We are sad to be leaving Port Sulphur, but looking forward to seeing all of you. Thanks again for all your prayers. We have had a wonderful week. In His Love, Acts 29-Port Sulphur |
