Camp FAQs

What forms do I have to fill out?

The first step is to register online (www.lordoflife.org/elemcamp or www.lordoflife.org/halfpintcamp) or turn in a camp registration form to the Children, Youth and Family Ministry Office with your deposit.  Mid-May we will send the health form, basic packing list, final balance payments and due dates, and a cabin mate request postcard.

There is not a space on the registration form for a roommate request/cabin mate request.  How do I let you know who my child(ren) would like to room with?

Being there is some uncertainty as to who will attend which camp at this time; we will send a cabin mate request post card in the mail mid-May when the majority of campers have registered.  Each camper will be able to select 2 cabin mates of their choice.  Lord of Life staff does their best to accommodate every camper to match you with at least one camper listed on the request.

Can my child receive mail & e-mail at camp?

-Yes, children do receive mail at camp!  If you choose to send mail via the post office, please allow sufficient time for arrival and delivery!  Camp is asking parents to not send food in care packages.  Food will not be able to be kept in cabins since it attracts ants and other insects!

-You can also send e-mails to your child(ren) while they are at camp!  To send your child an e-mail; send your message to elizabethb@lordoflife.org with your child’s name in the subject line.  Children will not be able to respond via e-mail, but will appreciate a note from home.  Please limit your emails to one per day, all e-mails received after 2 PM will be handed out the next day.

-Parents can also send notes and letters to camp with Biz.  They will be included in mail call every afternoon with regualar mail and e-mails!

My child often gets homesick at bedtime.  How is this handled?

Great question!  This is an issue that most camp counselors have experienced more than once so they have some experience with it.  Most often the counselors do their best to calm the child down, spend some time with them one on one and help the child resolve whatever it is they miss or are scared of.  Often the child needs a reassuring hug, prayer, and support.  Biz will also be contacted in all cases of homesickness.  Often it helps to have a familiar face from back home.  If homesickness persists in the evening hours we will make a phone call home to say goodnight and to hear parents' reassuring voices or send e-mails to tell parents about our days' adventures!  If this is not the right experience for your child, parents can choose to come and pick their child up early from camp.

My child is not the strongest swimmer.  What is the swimming policy at camp?

The first day of camp each cabin enters the lake for an aquatic challenge.  This helps lifeguards identify who the strong swimmers are.  The swim area is divided into a shallow end and a deep end.  After the aquatic challenge swimmers are told if they get to stay in the shallow end or swim in the deep end.  Swimmers must swim with a buddy at all times and enter/exit the water through the Buddy Board, which is monitored by a counselor.  Lifeguards are present during all swim times.

I have a 3rd grader and a 5th grader, can they room together?

We try to keep the same grades together in a cabin so there is not such a large gap in age and development.  All cabins will look different, and we will try to accommodate your requests to the best of our ability.

Is there a multi camper discount?

Yes!  If you send more than one child to Half-Pint and/or Elementary Camp there is a $25 multiple camper discount per child.  There are no discounts if you have a child attending Luther Park Bible Camp or if your family attends Family Camp at Shores.

Can I drop off and pick up my camper at camp?

No.  Lord of Life provides all the transportation to and from camp.  Parents will get to meet their child’s counselor at Lord of Life prior to departure.

Can I invite my friends to come to camp even if they do not attend Lord of Life?

Yes!  All friends, cousins, siblings, etc are welcome to join us at camp as long as they are of the appropriate age.

Can I bring my cell phone, PSP and iPod?

No.  We ask that all electronics stay at home.  There are too many other things to do!

I have a food allergy, can I still come to camp?

Yes!  The kitchen staff at Shores is wonderful, and very accommodating.  If you have a specific diet that you need to follow, it is recommended that you bring your own meals.  You can contact the camp and get a menu ahead of time so you can plan and pack meals accordingly.
