Lord of Life History

Lord of Life began as a mission congregation in the summer of 1978. The first worship service was held at Cedar Island Elementary School. Pastor Paul Hammarberg, mission developer, was also Lord of Life's first called pastor. The charter membership consisted of 412 members, an unusually large number for a mission congregation.

In January of 1982, Lord of Life moved into the location at 6900 West Fish Lake Road. The original sanctuary, turned Fellowship Hall, had seating for 220. The next sanctuary, which seated 450, was completed in 1986. A third building, the education wing, was completed in 1991. The purchase of an adjacent piece of property in 1997 and the Fish House provided the congregation with additional meeting space and outreach facilities.

Lord of Life began using Rush Creek Elementary School at the corner of Highway 101 and 89th Avenue as a worship and church school site in 1996. The Rush Creek site enabled Lord of Life to expand its outreach efforts into the fast growing areas of western Maple Grove and Corcoran.

In 1998, the congregation purchased 31 acres of land at the intersection of highways 101 and 10. The new church facility (pictured at right) was completed in 2001 with more room for worship, education and fellowship. Lord of Life has had an exciting history in Maple Grove! Over the last twenty years, the congregation has expanded at an incredible rate. Lord of Life's membership is currently in the top one-half of one percent of all ELCA congregations in the United States.

Lord of Life Lutheran Church Charter
Lord of Life Lutheran Church is a community of people called together by God’s Holy Spirit who confess Christ as Lord.

We wish to be a church whose door is open to all people. And with the guidance of the Holy Spirit we will strive to educate, comfort, aid and spread the word of love in Christ’s name.

We believe worship is of most importance in our life together as we receive God’s love through Word and Sacrament.

We will be involved with seeking justice in our community, state, nation and world. We hold high the dignity and worth of every human being as created in God’s image and forgiven in Christ. We hope to be a serving church, in the name of Him who came as Servant of all.
