Hope Lodge is a home away from home, free of charge for adult cancer patients and their caregivers who travel more than 50 miles to receive treatment. There are two locations in MN, one by the U of M Hospital and the other in Rochester. Hope Lodge is sponsored by the American Cancer Society and exists through generous donations from the community. Lord of Life is partnering with Hope Lodge by providing donations, meals, prayer shawls and volunteers.
How to get involved:
- Donate items for Hope Lodge guests. View the list of current needs, then place your donated items in the bin in Fellowship Hall.
- Prepare and serve a meal for the guests at Hope Lodge every other Monday. Meet at Lord of Life at 4:15 pm to carpool; return between 7:30-8 pm. You may also drive directly to Hope Lodge if you are unable to stay the entire time.
Upcoming dates:
April 23
May 7 and 21
June 4 and 18
Contact Paula Thomas at pkthomas5@hotmail.com to volunteer.
- Serve with your family
Read the article in the February LifeTIMES (pg. 15) to learn more about mother and daughter, Shar and Jenna, serving together.
- Provide dessert for Hope Lodge. Dessert needs to be delivered to Lord of Life by 3 pm on your selected day. Please include the recipe as some people need to be aware of the ingredients. Contact Paula to sign up or for more information.
- Make "Grab and Go" bags for patients to take with them to treatment. The Grab and Go bags can include the following: bottle of water, packet of crystal light or G2 or something similar, fruit cup, granola bar or some other type of packaged snack (cookies, crackers), napkin and disposable spoon. You may also include a note with a word of encouragment or Bible verse. Anything you want to put in would be gratefully accepted. Completed bags can be dropped off at church. Contact Michelle for more information.
