Gifted Intercession
by Deb Stec
Did anyone ever stand up for you in the schoolyard against the class bully? After a time of hardship, have the simple words “I will pray for you” provided a muchneeded warmth in your heart? The physical and mental result of another’s prayer or support is one of relief that tends to lift an enormous burden off our shoulders and lighten our loads. Just knowing that there is someone out there thinking about and caring for you is a special comfort of its own.
Intercessory prayer acts in the same manner but is more deeply meaningful as it allows us to step up for someone before God. Many famous biblical figures acted on behalf of others. Abraham stuck his neck out for others but was only able to save his relatives. Moses continually stepped in to save the Jewish people for their disobedient ways while wandering through the desert and above ALL Jesus stands before God and between Him and the sinful man to save us and grant us salvation.
While the examples given are of great and prominent people, the everyday person can serve God, by providing just as they did, through the service of intercession.
With the modern day come modern problems of losing jobs and homes, raising children, health issues, tending for elderly and doubting our faith in light of the world’s troubles. That is why more than ever we need someone to step in on our behalf and act as our intercessor with God.
Many of us within the congregation are looking for ways to “step out of the boat” and expand our soul experiences in God’s light. If you possess the compassion and heart to act on the behalf of others then challenge yourself and consider becoming an Intercessor at Lord of Life. Just by listening and praying for our members in need, you can serve the Lord through the gift of intercession.
To others in need, who may be experiencing life’s challenges and hardships, there is no need to go it alone. Seek the resource of Intercessory Prayer at our services to the right of the altar during communion. Who knows, maybe someday you may feel the tug of the Spirit to “pay it forward.”
“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2
