Word for Women Box Tops for Education

The Word for Women (WFW) Bible study is reaching out to help the students at Palmer Lake Elementary in Brooklyn Center. Some WFW members volunteer weekly at Palmer Lake assisting teachers in classrooms and working individually with students. The school really appreciate the extra help.

In addition to volunteering, the WFW group is working to collect Box Tops for Education “coupons” from grocery products. Box Tops for Education helps schools earn cash for things they need, from books and computers to playground equipment. In 2008, Box Tops for Education celebrated reaching the $250 million mark in donations and continuing its tradition of making a difference for schools, teachers and kids, year after year. More than 86,000 schools have benefited from funds received through the Box Tops for Education program.

The program was started by General Mills in 1986 and most all GM affiliated brands have the BTE coupons on them. Some of the big names among the hundreds of brands are Betty Crocker, Nestle, Green Giant, Pillsbury, Yoplait, Huggies, Ziploc, Scott, Kleenex, Hefty bags, Avery office products, etc.

Lord of Life members can help make a difference for Palmer Lake Elementary just by checking your grocery product packages and clipping the coupon from the package. Many times the coupon is a pink rectangle about ½” x ¾’ with the words “Box Tops for Education”. Just clip the Box Tops coupons from hundreds of grocery products, collect them in any size Ziploc bag and bring them to church. There is a collection box on the shelves in the Fellowship Hall for your bags of coupons. Anyone can collect the coupons for the fundraiser even if you don’t have students in school.

We’re hoping to have a huge collection of the Box Tops for Education coupons by the end of August to deliver to the school.  Remember, Palmer Lake will receive $ .10 for every coupon we return to the Box Tops program.  Please check all of your packaging in your cabinets now and look at your grocery packaging to keep adding to your collection.
